PERCY A. SANBORN (American, 1849-1929) PORTRAIT OF THE HALF BRIG “STEPHEN BISHOP”. Unsigned oil on canvas portrait of a two-mast sailing vessel in full sail sailing left to right with steamship off stern and busy large harbor view with mountains off bow. The black hulled ship has US flag flying, ship pennant and another star flag. Several figures are seen aboard. All under a blue and white cloud sky with three birds. hand written painted legend below ship at center “Brig Stephen Bishop of Searsport, Captn. C.H. Gilkey-Leghorn, 1874″. Built in New Haven, CT, 1867. Charles H. Gilkey Master 1877-1879. Housed in its original black stained oak molded wood frame. A fine work by this famous Maine artist. SIZE: 18″ x 26”.
