HUBLEY 3-SEAT BRAKE. As mentioned in the previous lot, the Hubley two-, three- and four-seat brakes were some of the most impressive toys the firm produced. As we look back today, it is hard to imagine that people traveled in this fashion, but it was commonplace for the late 19th and early 20th century. This toy features the same muttonchopped driver, footman, as well as two male and two female passengers. The seating arrangement has the extended rear third seat beyond the back of the carriage and handsomely enameled in black with red and gilt trims, and a pair of galloping black and white horses. SIZE: 18″ l. CONDITION: A fair amount of restoration to the back end/carriage part of toy. Front end retains its original paint, except wheels, which have repaint to match the rear wheels. The six figures are repainted and/or replacements. 1-12834 (2,000-4,000)
