OIL ON CANVAS OF WHALE KILLING SCENE. This late 19th or early 20th century whale killing scene is filled with action. The breeching whale is being struck with a harpoon by one longboat, another longboat being capsized by the whale’s tail. Two whaling ships in the background. Painting is unsigned and framed in a veneered ogee-style mahogany frame. SIZE: (sight) 23-1/2” h x 13-1/2” l. CONDITION: There is a small repair and puncture in the sky a few inches above the whale. Canvas is soiled with age, probably never cleaned. 9-23425 (1,000-2,000)
