HUBLEY 2-SEAT BRAKE. During the earlier part of the 20th century, Hubley produced numerous pleasure/passenger horse drawn carriages, the most impressive being the two-, three- and four-seat brakes. Perhaps the most elusive and yet under appreciated is the two-seat brake, which is by far the hardest to obtain. This pleasure carriage normally only came with a red body and a black & white horse and carried two female passengers, a footman, and the blanketed muttonchopped driver. When pulled along the floor, the wheels activated a galloping mechanism for the two horses and this was a typical carriage most often found in metropolitan areas. Oftentimes, due to the construction and size of this toy, damage occurs to the horses’ hooves, and the seats, which are fragile, and passengers would disappear. This particular piece is completely all original, with the exception of one side lamp and one female passenger, which are older replacements. SIZE: 17″ l. CONDITION: Overall good to very good. More noticeable paint loss to yellow wheels. 1-12835 (3,000-5,000)
