IMPORTANT CARVED SOAPSTONE OF QUANYIN VIEWING THE WATER MOON. Chinese, Qing Dynasty. This beautifully detailed carved figure depicted sitting on a large rock, left arm resting on raised knee, each foot positioned on a lotus blossom. Plinth surrounded by swirling water. With polychrome painted highlights. SIZE: 22-1/2″ h x 14″ w. PROVENANCE: From the family shrine of Prince Duan. It is purported to have been taken with him during his time in exile.
