FERRIS WHEEL MECHANICAL BANK. George Bower was a well known collector and had the ability to repair toys and banks. He was one of the pioneers and early collectors along with other names such as Yondo, Slim Pelletier, Red Myers, Mark Haber, etc. His creation and alterations of the Hubley Ferris Wheel became highly sought-after since his work was greatly appreciated by collectors. Clockwork is housed in bottom part of bank, and all four sides are embossed with the words “FERRIS WHEEL BANK”. When bank is wound and the lever is pushed, the ferris wheel revolves and the people go round and round. This is an extremely large and fascinating bank and almost too good to be true. The reality is that the top of the bank, which is the ferris wheel, was manufactured by Hubley at the turn of the 20th century. The bottom portion of the bank was created by George Bower of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, starting in the 1950s. Even though this is not an all-original mechanical bank, it is still highly desired by collectors. SIZE: 21-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Good, with paint loss throughout. Base plate has substantial rust. Trap is present but does not seem to fit bank. 1-9972 (1,500-2,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
