CHIPPENDALE STYLE ARCHITECTURAL MAHOGANY AND GILTWOOD LOOKING GLASS. Late 19th, early 20th century. The molded cornice with swan’s neck pediment terminating in floral rosette emanating scrolling leaf tips centering a displayed eagle above the figured mahogany frieze bisected with a giltwood molding. The rectangular mirror plate within a gilt slip, cast with leaf tips further bordered by moldings cast with leaf tips flanked by foliate filets above the scrolling apron. SIZE: 63″ h x 30″ w overall. CONDITION: Some losses to gilding in crest, proper right wingtip of eagle with small losses to gesso, both filets with gesso losses. Other minor molding losses throughout. Mirror frame retains original surfaces. Gilding darkened with age. Mirror plate original. Very good overall. 9-20230 (1,000-1,500)
