FINE CARVED & PAINTED FIGURE OF A NAVAL OFFICER. 2nd half 19th century. Figure carved from the solid in a blue peaked cap with wavy hair and mutton chops gazing forward, wearing a high collar with bow tie, vest and coat with tails joined to a scrolled corbel continuing on a square base in green paint attached to a later square stand. Back of figure retains original iron strapping with iron ring above a vertical iron strap at base, probably a figurehead. SIZE: Figure is 63″ h. Overall 75-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine Texas Estate. CONDITION: Structurally good with substantive lettering and with old shrinkage cracks. Overall with vestiges of original paint. 9-22950 (3,000-5,000)
