HAND PAINTED AMERICAN TIN HOUSE BANK. A fairly scarce early American bank in the form of an early building, hand painted “Savings Bank” above the center door. What is unusual about this bank is the windows and doors appear to be stenciled, but are really done free hand. It has a very appealing color combination in yellows and green with a grain painted front door. Grain painting was very popular in the 1870s-80s. SIZE: 5-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: For a bank of this age, the condition is very good plus with the usual chipping at the corners and high points, but is very acceptable for a bank of this period. 1-10023 (750-1,250) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
