FINE MARQUETRY AND MAHOGANY SEWING TABLE. Second quarter 19th century. Rectangular hinged top inlaid with a floral filled urn centering a song bird bordered by a scrolling foliate cartouche within contrasting string inlaid border opening to a fully fitted interior of 8 lidded compartments all inlaid with floral sprays, 3 compartments for spools of thread. The lid interior mounted with a rectangular mirror plate above a single drawer with leather lined writing surface, pen tray, inkwell and powder jar above a bag slide. The apron and drawer fronts all with marquetry vinery. The case raised on lyre form marquetry supports joined to a rectangular plinth with incurved sides on suppressed disc feet. SIZE: 29″ h x 17-3/4″ w x 13-3/4″ d. CONDITION: Very fine overall with high quality marquetry and rich patina. Material on sewing bag in need of some restoration. Small shrinkage cracks on lower shelf and on perimeter of lid. 9-96409 (1,200-1,600)
