RARE TOPOGRAPHICAL CHART OF THE BAY OF NARRAGANSET IN THE PROVINCE OF NEW ENGLAND BY CHARLES BLASKOWITZ, 1777. The framed map laid on linen shows the Connecticut and Rhode Island coastline, including the Newport/Rhode Island area. The black & white chart having a top scrolled cartouche as follows: “A topographical chart of the Bay of Narraganset in the Province of New England, with all the isles contained therein, among which Rhode Island and Connonicut have been particularly surveyed, Shewing the true position & bearings of the Banks, Shoals, rocks & small sea. as likewise the Soundings: to which have been added the several works & batteries raised by the Americans. Taken by order of the principle farmers on Rhode Island, by Charles Blaskotiz Engraved & printed for Wm. Faden, Charing Cross, as the act directs July 22d 1777”. The right side having a legend “References to the batteries” and a list of the principle farms in Rhode Island with a dedication by Wm. Faden. Housed in a modern wood frame with glass front. SIZE: Sight: 36-1/2″ x 24-3/4″. PROVENANCE: From a fine Maine home. CONDITION: The map was folded in 1/16ths and there are separations at the folds with some losses & foxing with some light stains at the edges. Generally good. 9-23180 (5,000-10,000)
