EXTREMELY RARE 24-1/2″, (62 CM), SIMON & HALBIG 1303 ASIAN WOMAN. Rarely found and exceptionally large portrayal of a Southeast Asian lady made for the French market to compete with and complement the famed Jumeau 200 series. An example of a similar doll is pictured in an old photograph of an exhibition of rare dolls at a toy fair Leipzig, Germany in 1909. The olive-tinted bisque head, with rare glass sleep eyes is incised “S&H GERMANY 1303 10”. She has dark rose colored lips, painted lower lashes with remnants of the silk upper lashes, with her red beauty spot in the middle of the forehead; she is on a fully articulated French wood and composition lady body with realistic adult proportions with full bosom and narrow waist. The exotic costume is a multi-layered combination of fine silks, paisley waist sash, brass coins, a blue bead and brass necklace and a long head scarf over the original dark human hair wig. The shoes are period French brown leather sandals with velvet pompoms nailed to the sole of the foot. The right foot also has a red bead ankle bracelet.
