BRUCE CRANE (American, 1857-1937) “INDIAN RIVER, CONN.”. Wonderful oil on canvas landscape shows sandy dirt road leading to bridge over river to a white New England farm house. Past bridge in moored sailboat and small row boat on sand in foreground. Gray storm clouds coming in from the left side, start to obscure blue sky with white clouds. Signed lower right Bruce Crane and titled on back of stretcher in pencil “Indian River, Conn”. Housed in its original fancy gold decorated gesso frame with gold liner and glass window. With metal frame tag on center front Bruce Crane. PROVENANCE: A fine Florida home; part of a collection that has descended in the same family since their purchase in the first quarter of the 20th C.
