UNIQUE & RARE VICTORIAN ARCHITECT’S TABLETOP CABINET. Second half 19th century, American. This rare example is an architect’s rendering of a fine 19th century home with mansard roof, the front painted with first and second floor windows decorated with sheers and red drapery. The double front doors with trompe l’oeil columns, portigo and front stoop, and fitted with a pair of cabinet doors opening to the interior fitted with a two tier shelf, the uppermost divided into pigeon holes for documents. The interior also fitted with an oilcloth floor covering. The walls with remnants of original wallpaper coverings. The cabinet doors fitted with the original lock and pewter “door handle”. The cabinet sides are fitted with cast iron carrying handles. The flat roof fitted with two chimneys and hinged, opening to a storage space within the roof. SIZE: 36″ h x 30″ w x 24″ d. CONDITION: Structurally retains all original elements and original painted surfaces. The whole showing wear from extensive use, especially around edges of roof and front edges of hinged doors. The underside of base of this table cabinet appears to have had feet or casters at one time. 9-20341 (8,000-10,000)
