WILLIAM LOUIS SONNTAG SR. (American, 1822-1900) MOUNT HAYES, NEW HAMPSHIRE. Monumental oil on canvas laid on wood panel landscape scene shows a panoramic view including a lake surrounded by gravel and wooded banks. Hills lead to tall mountain peak which is partly shrouded in white mist. Glimpses of blue sky with white clouds above. Signed lower left “Sonntag 1886″. Housed in an antique gilt and black wood frame. We are told that this is the painting Sonntag exhibited at the National Academy of Design 1886 exhibition #403. SIZE: 47″ x 69-1/2”.
