W. FORRESTER (English, Publisher, 19th Century) “GRAND MATCH OF THE ROYAL CALEDONIAN CURLING CLUB AT LINLITHGOM”. Colored engraving after a painting by C. Lees and engraved by John le Conte. Published by W. Forrester, 56 Hanover St. Edinburgh, February 1, 1858. The legend “Grand Match of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club at Linlithgom between the north and south sides of the fort. Respectfully dedicated to the office bearers and members of the Associated Clubs forming the Royal Caledonian Curling Club. Be their obedient and very humble servant W. Forrester. Housed in a fine modern gilt frame with watercolor and gilt highlighted white matte. The scene shows a large crowd and a curling event happening outside on an ice covered pond with castle/fort behind. SIZE: Sight: 25″ x 37-1/2″. Image: 22-1/2″ x 37-1/4”. PROVENANCE: W. Graham Arader III, King of Prussia, PA. CONDITION: Colors are strong. There are a few small repaired tears in edges and one in left corner just into the image. 9-99657 (3,000-4,000)
