HOSE REEL DRAWN BY TWO FIREMEN ATTRIBUTED TO ALTHOF BERGMANN. Although this toy has had significant restoration and repair, the form is wonderful. A very fine simulated undercarriage suspends the hose reel with bells and is elaborately painted and stenciled. Two firemen in front standing on a wheeled platform ready to take off to the next blaze. Canisters on front and rear are stenciled “AMERICA”, two bells attached to the front canister and toy is suspended by four cast iron wheels. This toy was originally found in pieces at a New England flea market in the mid-1980s. Basically the toy was intact, but devoid of paint and missing a couple of minor pieces. It was not uncommon in the 70s and 80s to find undiscovered fresh to the market toys in “as is” condition and still occasionally today these treasures can be found. SIZE: 9-1/4″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Restored. 1-10188 (3,500-6,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
