ADAM’S STYLE EDWARDIAN SATINWOOD BOOKCASE. Second half 19th century, England. This diminutive satinwood example of rectangular form fitted with four astragal glazed doors above four aligned drawers over the conforming frieze raised on square tapered legs terminating in Marlborough feet. The top decorated with grape vines centering a classical urn within a wide border of grape vine garlands all within yew crossbanding. The upper frieze decorated with a classical urn flanked with interwoven scrolling bellflower garlands alternating with floral pattern. The pair of central doors with paint decorated mullions, acanthus leaf clusters and bellflowers flanked by cupboard doors, each with central panel decorated with a ribbon tied cluster trophy urn flanked by bellflower tassels at the head and foot. Each drawer front decorated with scrolling leaf tips and wreaths. The frieze and legs paint decorated with bellflowers. SIZE: 46″ h x 62″ l x 11-3/4″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine Maine and New York private collection. CONDITION: Professionally restored and French polished.
