EXTREMELY LARGE ARTICULATED WHITTAKER PATENTED HORSES PUSH TOY. A very unique toy with variants which most likely were improvements in how this toy worked. The concept being that with a wooden stick the child could push the toy around the house and the horses would gallop. Seldom found and oftentimes incomplete, this toy has many interesting qualities. The uniqueness of the immense iron wheels, no other toy ever utilized a wheel of this size, let alone the cast protrusion from one of the spokes that actuated the steel rod attached to the horse’s belly. There is a possibility that these horses could have been produced by Fallows and sold to this company and used for production of this toy. SIZE: 15-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus. Some resoldering to horses’ tails, horses lacking wire containers originally soldered to top of belly bands for simulated reins. 1-10123 (2,500-4,500)
