SIX PIECE CIRCUS PLATFORM PULL TOY. As pictured on page 216 in the American Antique Toys by Bernard Barenholtz, once again the question arises as to the true manufacturer, and we can only guess as to who really made what due to the fact that companies copied each other, interchanged parts with one another, collaborated with one another, etc. Whether or not all these toy parts came together in the beginning and were interchangeable for the child’s delight does not matter. Clearly Barney felt these pieces belonged together and kept them together and obviously Malcolm felt the same way. The one difference is that Malcolm decided to have some of the pieces enhanced for his viewing pleasure. The child could easily interchange various pieces throughout the day and play for hours with this toy. Truly amazing in concept, design and production to the best of our knowledge no other examples have survived. Occasionally a single piece will surface here or there. An extremely rare and unique opportunity for the collector of American tin toys as well as those who appreciate the folk art quality of this toy. The absurdity of this toy by just viewing the lion climbing up the pole or perhaps the lion on a pole with his trainer sitting out on an extended platform next to him, who knows what the toy designer was thinking that day.
