IMPORTANT AESTHETIC MOVEMENT WALNUT SLANT LID SECRETARY ATTRIBUTED TO KIMBEL & CABUS. Circa 1870-80. New York City. This rare and diminutive example in figured walnut designed with two shells beneath a spool-turned gallery above a sloping lid fitted with ornate brass strap hinges, the large central maple or satin wood panel with a beautiful pen and ink tableau featuring a fanciful forest landscape with deer and a putti centering an interior scene depicting a family sharing a meal at the table surrounded by family pets and other animals, above a long drawer over a pair of cupboard drawers each with pen and ink romantic scenes, also fitted with elaborate strap hinges in the manor of Kimbel & Cabus. The whole with overall incised gilt-heightened decoration. It should be noted the drawings are of distinct Germanic influence.
