FINE EARLY FEDERAL CHERRY CANDLESTAND IN THE MANNER OF NATHAN LOMBARD (1777-1847). First quarter 19th century, probably Hartford. Shaped beveled top with ogival corners and serpentine edges joined to a ring turned cylindrical standard. Central ball with incised medial line raised on cabriole tripod base with exaggerated angular knees in the manner of Nathan Lombard, terminating in ridged pad feet. SIZE: 27-1/4″; h. Top: 17-1/2″ x 17-3/4″; PROVENANCE: Connecticut family home which descended from Sarah Upson Goodrich (Mrs. Oliver R. Beckwith) who descended from the Rev. Charles Chauncey, President of Harvard College and Elder William Brewster. Sarah was a member of the Connecticut chapter of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. CONDITION: Professionally repolished. Top with light staining and abrasions. Old splits in tripod base in need of tightening. 9-21866 (2,000-4,000)
