ALTHOF BERGMANN CAROUSEL. Dimension-wise this is one of the largest American clockwork toys ever produced. Mechanism is contained within a wood and stenciled tin base with a parian lady with hat cranking the carousel to life in a counter clockwise motion. A tin armature frame covered in a tan linen with red cotton fringe further embellishes this toy. A series of gondolas with two passengers and riders on horseback revolve about the center section. This is the only known early tin clockwork carousel that was ever made by an American manufacturer of toys. This toy is the very one pictured on the front cover of the Perelman Antique Toy Museum book. SIZE: Approx. 18″ h. Approx. 19″ d of canopy.
