HORSE DRAWN CARPENTER “TALLY HO”. A classic and aesthetically pleasing horse drawn toy from the latter part of the 19th century. Perhaps of all the horse drawn carriages manufactured by any toy maker, this is the pinnacle and most desirable. Due to the size, frailty of hitches and horses, it is amazing to find one intact and in overall very good condition. This particular example is the very example pictured on plate 8 of the Perelman Antique Toy Museum book. When one thinks of the “Tally Ho”, English comes to mind, but this was a typical means of transportation in America in the big cities and destinations in between, obviously reserved for the wealthier clientele. The Carpenter toy company produced many iron toys and they are highly sought after by collectors. Without a doubt, they produced some of the finest toys in the late 1800s. Upon close examination, one can almost lapse into the time period by examining the coach itself and the fancifully dressed ladies and gentlemen. A magnificent toy with marvelous provenance. SIZE: 25″ l. PROVENANCE: Ex-Perelman Collection, Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Overall very good to excellent with only the rear horn figure being an older replacement (as pictured in Perelman’s book). 1-10119 (25,000-35,000)
