FINE CARVED TEAK ARMCHAIR. Second half 19th century, possibly Tibet. The carved crest with serpent border above a seated Buddhist figure flanked by turned finials above the floral scrolling crest rail. The back carved in deep relief with central figure of a goddess holding serpent and staff between a floral and foliate lyre form frame flanked by acanthus carved styles, joined to downswept arms carved with foliate vinery terminating in chimera supports centering a trapezoidal cane seat, the rails with foliate vinery raised on acanthus carved turned frontal legs, the rear legs square and tapering. SIZE: Back: 40-1/2″ h. Seat: 17″ h. CONDITION: Cleaned surfaces, structurally very good. 9-29745 (200-300)
