11-PIECE BUDDY L OUTDOOR RAILROAD TRAIN. One cannot imagine a Buddy L train that could possibly as good as this particular example, having survived for over 80 years, this toy must have been for display purposes only and never used by a child. It is in virtually near mint, unplayed with condition, and rumored to have been purchased for a child who passed away shortly after it was acquired. The paint just glows, and if you can pardon the expression, it looks to be “still wet”. Sure, there may be a chip here and a rub there, one cannot express how pristine its condition is. It is truly stunning. Even the railroad track (of which four pieces are included) retains a substantial amount of black paint on top of the rails. Quite possibly this is for the collector who never thought of purchasing a Buddy L train, but the condition alone might alter one’s thinking. In short, this is for the person who wants the best of the best. The set was supposedly purchased with all cars. However, the extra cattle car with its original box and the yellow tanker will be sold in the subsequent lot. Only the original cardboard box is present for the cattle car in this lot and one wonders where the other boxes are. The two variant flat cars including the somewhat shorter version and the rare ore car is also included. SIZE: Engine & Tender: 42″ l, Caboose: 19″ l, Small flat car: 19″ l, Large flat car: 22″ l, Hopper: 22″ l, Gondola: 22″ l, Ore: 21″ l, Tank Car: 17″ l, Cattle car: 22″ l, Box Car: 22″ l for total of approximately 220″. CONDITION: As stated above. A few chips here and there. Loss to one die-cast coupler each on short flat car, gondola, and ore car. Set appears never to have been cleaned or polished. Just an absolutely fantastic train. 1-12136 (15,000-25,000)
