CAST IRON “ARTIE” CIGAR CUTTER. A classic figural cast iron cigar store cutter, this one depicting a gentleman sitting atop a chimney and when cigar is clipped he lowers his right arm, pulling the cigar from his mouth and sticking his tongue out. A patent date of 1889 and produced by Erie Specialty Co. of Erie, PA. There are only 15-20 various cast iron figural cigar cutters known. This example is one of the larger, more elaborate examples. The finish is a black copper oxide and highlighted with red lettering on the word “Artie”. Extremely fancy iron casting to the base as well as front plate advertising Artie as the best cigar of the year. Clockwork mechanism to clipped cigar is intact and in working order. SIZE: Approx. 10″ t. CONDITION: Overall very good to fine, perhaps a light cleaning to remove green oxidation would further enhance the appeal of the cutter. 1-12526 (2,000-3,000)
