IVES CLOCKWORK FIREHOUSE WITH PUMPER. An exceptional clockwork Ives toy from the latter part of the 19th Century. This accurate as well as finely detailed replica of the real thing was a toy a child could often play with for hours. When wound and the lever activated, a bell would ring multiple times, finally, the front doors would pop open and the pumper would rush out the inclined floor. Extremely ornate iron castings have been japanned with gilt trim applied. This toy was originally displayed in the Perelman Antique Toy Museum (Philadelphia, PA) for many years. The pumper, which is actually Wilkins, is incorrect but an attractive and usable for this toy. The pumper itself is enameled in a pale yellow with black boiler and horses both with gilt trim. Removable driver (replacement) further adds to the appeal of this toy. SIZE: Pumper 14″ l. Firehouse 15-1/4″. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. Perelman Antique Toy Museum, plate #6. CONDITION: Overall condition is excellent plus. 1-10074 (6,500-7,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
