BOY SAWING WOOD ARTICULATED PULL TOY. A unique American tin toy and to the best of our knowledge this is the only known surviving example. In untouched, as found, all original condition, I’m sure that as a young man playing with this toy one would be quite amused, especially if your father was a lumberjack or carpenter. The blue-japanned boy is mounted on a dark green oval treadle on a bright red tin base. As the toy is pulled, an eccentric axle activates the boy so that he saws the wooden log-a never-ending task. This toy appears in Barenholtz’s book American Antique Toys on page 275 (negative is reversed). SIZE: 6-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Overall good to very good. 1-10117 (2,000-4,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
