WAYNE BEAM MORRELL (American, 1923-) “SUNLIT ORCHARD IN MAY”. Outstanding large oil on canvas spring scene shows a man walking down curving dirt road toward white red roofed Colonial home with large trees. A row of blossoming apple trees is seen against a cultivated field hillside having house and barns. The spring sunlight shines from the left and reflects on the house, road and apple trees. All under a colorful blue sky dotted with colorful edged clouds. Signed lower left. Housed in a modern gilt molded wood frame with linen liner. A label from the Wayne Morrell Retrospective in 1992 at Drexel University is attached to backing and indicates that it was the collection of Lisa A. Morrell. Also indicates that this was painted in the Spring of 1969 in Hampton Falls, N.H. at the Apple Crest Farms. This painting was used as the color cover illustration on his book “The Morrell Sketches”.
