MARGARET BOURKE-WHITE (American, 1904-1971) SHARECROPPERS CABIN. Vintage photograph, circa 1936, mounted photograph having a black edge border showing a woman putting out sheets and quilts to dry using the picket fence and make-do drying rack. A young boy stands next to the fence. Back of the mount having a purple “A Margaret Bourke-White Photograph” stamp. Also, pencil inscription “514”. At this time Margaret was in Georgia with Erskine Caldwell gathering photographs for their book “You Have Seen Their Faces”. We have been unable to find another image of this photograph published. SIZE: Photograph: 10″ x 13-1/4″. Total: 15″ x 20″. PROVENANCE: Erskine Caldwell’s wife (Mt. Vernon, Maine); to our consignor’s father through descent. CONDITION: Slight stain to upper left, otherwise very good. 9-99877 (3,000-5,000)
