IMPORTANT AMERICAN BURLED DIPPER AND A BRACE. Second half 19th century. The dipper, a fine and rare burled treen example of white cedar, is decorated overall with etched double circles. The underside decorated with a three petal design within a double ring in the style of Abenaki Indians. The deep bowl is joined by a sweeping handle with crude thumb grip. The early burled brace with ring turned and molded flattened circular handle, the opposing end fitted with a cylindrical threaded bit holder. SIZE: Dipper: 5-1/2″ h x 13-1/4″ l x 7-3/4″ w. Brace: 14″ l. CONDITION: These fine and rare examples both with very good patina and surfaces. The dipper with roughness around the upper rim, possibly resulting from early use and resulting wear, otherwise very good overall. The brace with old shrinkage cracks within normal parameters. 9-97532 (5,750-6,250)
