NEW YORK/HUDSON RIVER TRAIN BY FALLOWS. American tin trains of this size are typically found with a separate engine and tender. The unusual feature of this example integrates both sections into a single unit. American tin toy manufacturers were always looking for ways to cut costs, and this was likely one such instance. Gaily painted in attractive colors with a multitude of stenciling on both the engine and cars, they are even more unusual to have blue japanning to ribbed roofs of passenger cars. An interesting side note, these roofs were used as bases for platform toys. Another cost cutting measure employed by this train is that no end pieces were employed; rather it is an open concept. Oftentimes, toys of this nature were a marriage of pieces and parts, this example features matching wheel supports and window cutouts and have undoubtedly always been together. SIZE: Overall 28″ l.
