FOLK ART CARVED & PAINTED FIGURE OF JACK TAR. 20th century. Possibly a shop figure, carved from the solid depicting a sailor in uniform with wooden leg wearing a brimmed hat with full beard wearing a naval blue blouse with wide collar. His right hand has a box. Figure is standing on a molded plinth. SIZE: 64″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine Texas Estate. CONDITION: Retains old painted surfaces, overpainted with a brown wash. Right arm with losses to wood prior to painting, otherwise very good. Possible absence of item in left hand. 9-22953 (1,000-2,000)
