MARGARET BOURKE-WHITE (American, 1904-1971) THE POT BELLY STOVE. Vintage photograph, circa 1936, shows a man and woman in a corner of a room with a cast iron pot belly stove. A dog is laying on the floor beside the stove. The photograph has a black border and is mounted to a light cardboard back which has a purple “A Margaret Bourke-White Photograph” stamp. Also inscribed in pencil “536”. At this time Margaret was in Georgia with Erskine Caldwell gathering photographs for their book “You Have Seen Their Faces”. We have been unable to find another image of this photograph published. SIZE: Photograph: 13-1/4″ x 10″. Total: 21-1/4″ x 15″. PROVENANCE: Erskine Caldwell’s wife (Mt. Vernon, Maine); to our consignor’s father through descent. CONDITION: Photograph is very good, mount has break in upper right corner with losses. 9-99878 (3,000-5,000)
