CLOCKWORK TWO HORSE GIG ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE BROWN. An extremely large gig seldom found in this size, first produced by George Brown and continued in production when the Brown firm merged with Stevens. George Brown used their signature six-spoked wheel in large size with rounded rim, as opposed to the Althof Bergmann or other tin manufacturers’ who used a flat exterior rim. The toy at first glance appears to have oversized horses compared to the gig, but after close examination everything is truly in scale and as pictured on plate 8 in The George Brown Toy Sketchbook. SIZE: 11-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Overall paint condition is very good plus, possible minor solder repair to inside of left horse at yoke. 1-10015 (5,000-7,000)
