AMERICAN TIN EQUESTRIAN TOY WITH THREE RIDERS. As previously discussed, in years past toys were often misattributed to various makers. Pictured in Barney Barenholtz’s book American Antique Toys on page 193 is a similar example, in Perelman Antique Toy Museum book on plate 3 is this example and in both cases they were misattributed to toy makers. This is without a doubt manufactured by Althof Bergmann. After viewing this toy it is obvious why these toys are so appealing and highly sought after, the abundance of bright coloring, the absurdity of the three different sizes of horses and riders and the motion when pulled along the carpet all add to the aesthetic appeal of the toy. The three horses and riders are textbook examples of Bergmann’s horses and riders that they had available and the juxtaposition of them on this toy is the only known configuration. SIZE: 11″ l. PROVENANCE: Perelman Toy Museum, Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: In untouched, as found, all original condition with no repairs or repaint of the few known examples! 1-10034 (10,000-30,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
