AMERICAN ARTS & CRAFTS STICKLEY TYPE OAK BOX SETTLE. First quarter 20th century. This fine example of box- or square-form settle with four square chamfered corner posts, joined on three sides by horizontal rectangular crest and seat rails, each with vertical flat splats, framed for a conforming seat cushion. The whole of mortise-and-tenon construction, also pinned. Very similar to the settle made by Gustav Stickley, #208, on p. 58 of Collected Works of Gustav Stickley, ed. by Stephen Gray and Robert Edwards. SIZE: 29″ h. x 75-1/2″ l. x 31-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Retains original surfaces, with good old patina. Seat frame and cushion absent. Otherwise good overall. No signature mark or label observed. 8-85514 (1,000-2,000)
