FINE PAIR OF MASSACHUSETTS CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIRS. Last quarter 19th century. Probably Salem area, each with a cyma-curved crest rail terminating in molded ears above the pierced vasaformed splat. Above the trapezoidal slip seat. Raised on frontal cabriole legs and square chamfered backswept rear legs. All joined by a blocked and turned H stretcher, the front legs terminating in platform pad feet. SIZE: 37″ height of back x 17″ height of seat. PROVENANCE: Former property of Nina Nightingale. CONDITION: Each of pegged construction, retaining older surfaces with good patina. No restorations noted. Seat frames appear original. Very good overall. 9-96416 (4,000-6,000)
