CHARACTER JUMEAU (#211) AUTOMATON. Various character Jumeau heads were often employed with different themes for makers of automata. This particular example features a crying, screaming girl due to the fact that she has dropped her doll and the head is loose or broken off. When activated, the music plays, the crying girl looks from left to right while raising her one hand with the hankie to wipe her eyes and then raising the second hand with the detached head of her baby doll. Perched upon a velvet covered base, the young girl has been redressed in a period style outfit with a replacement blond human hair wig. The head marked with “211” on the back, exposed upper teeth and tongue and squinty blue paperweight eyes. SIZE: Overall 22″ t. CONDITION: Excellent working condition. Right bisque arm appears to have an aged repair.
