RARE IMPORTANT FRENCH FASHION DOLL WITH WOOD ARTICULATED BODY. Circa 1865, this lovely bisque socket head doll by Anqueuelle with character like face, with two tone blue glass eyes, multi stroke blonde eyebrows, well painted upper and lower lashes, pierced ears, nicely painted lips with V-shaped upper lip, mounted to a separate bisque shoulder plate with indentation at neckline, mounted to an all wooden body with joints at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, and also having a swivel waist. On the front of torso there is original paper sticker from original toy shop, reading “AUX REVES de L’ENFANCE. JOUETS. Fque DE POUPEES. ARTICULEES. JEUX DE SOCIETE. CARTONNAGES. INSTRUCTIFS. 40, RUE DE RICHELIEU. PARIS.” Wig is antique honey human hair over cork pate, with a band of cloth flowers. SIZE: 18″ (47cm). CONDITION: Excellent; body finish appears original.
