HUBLEY 4-SEAT BRAKE. A most unusual and extremely rare “custom order” 4-seat brake with three teams of horses. This toy was purchased many years ago from a gentleman in Texas, as the story goes, this toy, along with a number of Hubley Royal Circus toys (including the rarest of all-The Revolving Monkey Cage) were ordered directly by the consumer from the factory. For whatever reason, the consumer desired extra horses for the circus toys as well as extra horses and a special paint job on this 4-seat brake. To date, this is the only known example of this particular toy painted in orange. It is our understanding the consumer requested orange to match the various circus toys. The toy is in original paint with some gilt enhancement and some overpainting to passengers. Truly an odd, but workable combination of colors (orange, blue, white, and red). Typical of Hubley brakes, the yokes can either be cast iron or brass, or a combination of both as is the case here. SIZE: Overall 34″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: One side lantern has been reattached to carriage. Overall crazing to paint. 1-10122 (12,500-22,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
