ALTHOF BERGMANN “RAIL ROAD OMNIBUS”. Malcolm had an affinity and liking for omnibuses. In his collection of toys he was able to acquire six different omnibuses by various makers. This particular example formerly belonged to Barney Barenholtz and is pictured on page 235 in American Antique Toys. It is most unusual for this toy to still retain the driver that was easily removable and sat in a small V-shaped seat (repair to left leg), children oftentimes must have removed or just simply lost this large tin gentleman. Fanciful stenciling to the tin body with applied floral decals and an opening rear door further add to the appeal of this rare toy. Japanned horses are articulated and the carriage top retains a wire luggage rack. Interior is fitted with seats for passengers. SIZE: 17″ l. PROVENANCE: Ex-Barenholtz Collection, Collection of Malcolm Deisenroth, Jr. CONDITION: Overall good to very good. Some touch up to wire luggage rack. Wheel framework and original rear step appears to be an old repair but as shown in the Barenholtz book. 1-10071 (17,500-27,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2010 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
