HARRISON BIRD BROWN (American, 1831-1915) COASTAL SHIPWRECK. Large oil on canvas coastal scene shows the remnants of a ship floundering in heavy coastal seas. Greenish waves with white spray pound the rocky coast, all under a gray and white cloud sky. Signed lower right, “H. B. Brown”. Housed in a wide period gesso-decorated gilt frame with some losses. Written in pencil on back of frame, “From R. H. Knights, 408 Congress Street, Portland, Maine, Oct 10, 1894”. SIZE: 25″h x 48″w. PROVENANCE: From an old Southern Maine Collection.
