FINE SEMI-ANTIQUE PEKING ORIENTAL CARPET. Second half 19th century. The pale indigo field woven overall with trees and exotic birds of all descriptions. The upper left corner with setting sun, the bottom row woven with marshes and a treed rocky grotto with heron and other waterfowl rendering the effect of a fine pastoral canvas painting in soft hues. The guard borders with Greek key design and scrolling vinery. The main border woven with cartouches, each cartouche bearing a different species of domestic or wild animal. SIZE: 14’3″ x 11’4″ CONDITION: This supple carpet with soft palette showing overall wear within acceptable parameters. The ends with wear and the selvege with areas of weakness.
