ELABORATE CARVED ENGLISH WOODEN DOLL, SO-CALLED “QUEEN ANNE”. Fine mid-18th Century doll with gesso covered and painted head, lower arms and legs with one piece head and torso having black pupiless glass eyes, long swan-like neck, finely carved nose, chin and ears. Long single arched eyebrow with short multi-stroke brows, both above and below brow line. Doll is jointed at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees with detail articulation at the elbows to allow greater movement than is normally found with this type of doll. She has elongated separately carved fingers with all paint surfaces appearing to be original. Costume is a two piece gold silk with long train in back with open front showing corset which accents the narrow waist. Wig is upswept brown human hair with a lacy mop cap with wire frame. Undergarments are quilted linen and the pointed slippers are green and gold antique brocade. SIZE: 24″ (61cm) to top of wig. CONDITION: Although having some paint wear on forehead, nose tip and upper lip, the condition is remarkable considering the doll is approximately 250 years old. 1-11921 (30,000-40,000)
