NANTUCKET LIGHTSHIP PURSE MADE BY PAUL F. WHITTEN. Circa 1969. This nice oval example typical of Paul Whitten’s (1908-1997) work with bentwood swing handle affixed with ivory fasteners. The oval lid mounted with a mahogany oval board on which is a carved sperm whale. The panel beneath the base inscribed “Made for/ JUDI NORD/ Christmas 1969/ Made by Paul F. Whitten/ Nantucket Island, Mass.” This lot is accompanied by an appraisal done in Edgartown, Massachusetts in 2005. SIZE: Overall: 11″ h. Basket: 7″ h x 10-3/4″ l x 8″ w. PROVENANCE: From a Massachusetts Collection. CONDITION: Very nice original condition with mellow color. 9-22327 (1,200-1,800)
