NORMAN ROCKWELL (American, 1894-1978) CATCHING HIS EYE. Watercolor and light oil illustration on paper laid on board scene shows a woman in Spanish type dress with shawl, fan, black and gold dress and shoes and silk stockings. She looks over her shoulder with a smile at a man dressed in brown Army outfit with hat and coat. His hand is at his chin pondering what the evening shall bring. Between them is lush tropical plants. Signed bottom right “Normal Rockwell”. Unframed. PROVENANCE: Purchased in Washington, DC in the mid 1900’s by Mr. Mario Barros Van Buren, a member of the Chilean Legation in New York who, later in his career became Ambassador to New Zealand (1985). SIZE: 23-1/2” x 16-3/4”. CONDITION: 1-1/2” split in the top center margin, appears to have some paint loss at edges and woman’s arm. 9-74421 FP (15,000-25,000)
