EXCAVATED PARROT SHELL. Ten-pound shell, about 8-1/4″ long x 3″ diameter with flared iron gas check rotating band. It has a hand written label attached which states, “10 # Parrot shell dug from the Southwest face of the fort at Sulpher Trestle. Col. Morton under Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest personally handled Battery that fired the shell. CONDITION: CSA. Dug Oct. 19, 1976 by Bert R. Hays”. Shell casing is a dark brown patina with heavy pitting, especially around the nose. Fuse & striker are gone with a hole down the center. 4-53794-1 JR352 (300-500)
