MAMMOTH CLOCKWORK ELEPHANT NODDER. Unusually large nodding elephant, most likely a store display. Papier-mache body covered in a fine felt with inset glass eyes and simulated ivory tusks made of wood. Panel door on right side of elephant allows access to interior. Nodding mechanism was likely activated by hand or via a string. One can only imagine that this fellow perhaps was stimulating sales for large size children’s shoes or maybe peanut butter. SIZE: Approx. 48″ l. x 30″ h. CONDITION: Overall condition is fair to good. Elephant trunk detached but present and this polite pachyderm’s right ear is also missing. 1-8223 JL (1,000-2,000) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2008 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
